Vision

The Maintenance Department’s VISION resides in upholding the standards of efficiency, effectiveness, and excellence in service while safely maintaining the buildings, grounds, and utilities of Lubbock County to the highest standards.

Goal

The Facilities Maintenance Department serves all the citizens, customers, and employees of Lubbock County by maintaining, operating, repairing, and renovating the physical assets including facilities, grounds, and other infrastructure of Lubbock County. Our GOAL lies in doing this in a responsive, pro-active, cost effective, and service oriented manner.

Lubbock County Maintenance Department History 1997 - Present

The current Lubbock County Maintenance Department – reorganized in 1997 by the then Director of Facilities, Lyle L. Fetterly – became a trained, professional work force dedicated to their motto: "Service First - with integrity and excellence in everything we do." Today's department consists of 62 full time personnel. They strive to provide a safe and comfortable work environment for more than 1,000 county employees as well as the general public.

County facilities total more than 1.5 million square feet. Major facilities include the Lubbock County Courthouse; 12-story office Annex Building and parking garage; the Lubbock County Detention Center; the; the Lubbock County Community Corrections Facility/Court Residential Treatment Center; the Lubbock County Juvenile Justice Center; 4 county warehouses; and 11 parking lots. You will find department technicians working not only in downtown Lubbock but Slaton, Idalou, Wolfforth, Shallowater, and even Roosevelt. Facilities spread around the entire county create a workload requiring 24-hour a day, 7-day a week support.

The department implemented a new, web-based work order system that went into use in June of 2020. This new system makes it possible to identify and track work requests from initial notification to completion of the job. The department completes an average of 1,000 work orders per month.

Another innovation, the department's current and ever-evolving automated heating and air conditioning control system, allows technicians to monitor and adjust temperatures throughout most county buildings from within the department's HVAC office. This system, in conjunction with a major lighting retrofit, water conservation measures, and other energy savings projects, reduced the electrical utility consumption by an average of 25%.

In addition to maintaining the county's facilities, the department also has responsibility for the oversight of all construction and remodeling projects throughout county buildings.
